In-vitro meat: Implications on Healthcare
Healthcare
Lab-grown meat is a healthier alternative to traditional meat. Firstly, as compared to the current meat we consume, which consist of antibiotics and steroids used by today’s consumers to make the meat plumper and juicier, lab-grown meat will be safer to consume.
Secondly, as postulated in an article by The Times, saturated fats could be removed, and healthy fats such as Omega 3 could be added. The result yields a hamburger that may be as nutritious as salmon. This may in turn lead to a reduction in the chance of people suffering heart attacks. In a sterile environment, it would be easier to reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses, such as E. coli and salmonella, which cause 76 million illnesses and 5,000 deaths annually in the U.S.
