Food for the Future
{OUR ANSWER TO WORLD HUNGER}
One effective way to improve supply is to decrease the raising of livestock for meat. According to figures provided by Striepe (2012), it takes an average of 30 kilograms of corn to produce 1 single kilogram of meat. In other words, for every kilogram of meat we consume, we consume 30 kilograms of corn. Comparing the energy content of the two food, corn contains 3kJ/g while meat contains around 7kJ/g. There assuming we consume 1 kilogram of meat a day, we take in 7000kJ of energy. If we consumed the equivalent amount of corn, we would have absorbed 90,000kJ of energy. For every person being fed on meat, 12.8 people can be fed on vegetables.
